DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University volleyball team announced the addition of setter Amanda Krahl to the Huskie volleyball program. Krahl joins the Huskies as a transfer from Appalachian State and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"The first noticeable trait about Amanda is that she is a competitor and she will bring that energy to our gym," said NIU head coach
Ray Gooden. "She comes to us with collegiate experience, and that will also help our group continue to move forward. Amanda is solid with her setting fundamentals and is a positive addition to our program."
In two seasons at Appalachian State, Krahl appeared in 25 matches, averaging 7.49 assists and 1.72 digs per set.
As a sophomore in 2017, Krahl appeared in six matches for the Mountaineers, including one start. She tallied 65 total assists and 24 total digs and recorded a season-high with 38 assists against Towson on Sept. 1.
During her freshman campaign in 2016, Krahl made 19 appearances which included 13 starts. Krahl averaged 7.89 assists per set as a freshman (489 total), while also adding 21 kills, 103 digs and 16 blocks. Krahl had a career-best 62 assists in a five-set victory over Ball State on Sept. 10.
A native of Pearland, Texas, Krahl prepped at St. Agnes Academy in Houston, where she was a four-time all-district honoree (2012, '13, '14, '15), a two-time all-district MVP (2014, '15) and an all-state honoree in 2014. Krahl also played for the Absolute Volleyball Academy and won the USAV Junior National Championship 17 Open division in 2014.
Krahl is the fourth addition to the Huskie roster for the 2018 season, joining incoming freshmen Grace Balensiefer (Lafayette, Ind./McCutcheon), Angie Gromos (West Chicago, Ill./West Chicago) and Jasmine Kemp (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) who all signed with NIU in November.
