CLEVELAND, Ohio – Junior Matt Cholod (Courtice, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic) of the Northern Illinois University men's golf team was named the Mid-American Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced on Friday. 

Cholod recorded his best finish of the season, tying for 11th at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in Normal, Ill., last weekend (March 31-April 1). Cholod's performance helped the Huskies to an eighth-place team finish, their fifth consecutive top-10 dating back to the fall.

After carding an opening round 77, the Huskie junior fired a second round 72, including three birdies on the back nine. In the final round, Cholod had a steady round that included 15 pars on his way to another 72, helping NIU move up four places in the team standings. 

This is the first career Golfer of the Week honor for Cholod and the first for the Huskies this season. 

Cholod and the Huskies will be back in action at the Missouri Tiger Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, April 9-10, at The Club at Old Hawthrone in Columbia, Mo.
