Huskie Happenings

NIUHuskies.com, the official online home for Northern Illinois Athletics, is pleased to announce the launch of a new blog, "Huskie Happenings." The section includes links to a daily newsstand, online chats, feature stories and interviews, game-day and multimedia information, promotions, calendars and much more. We hope this will become your first and last stop everyday for all the information you crave about Huskie Athletics.

The "Huskie Happenings" addition will be more interactive with visitors of NIUHuskies.com. For that to work, this must be a a two-way street, or even one of those really confusing five-way stoplights. That means we need to hear from you. I know you're out there, Mr. or Ms. Fan Who Wants to Be Heard. So step up, and e-mail us at houghtaling@niu.edu.

SOFTBALL AT HOME TODAY!

Check out the softball team today at Mary M. Bell Field (just northeast of Huskie Stadium). NIU is looking to improve on its 4-0 MAC start against 1-21 Toledo. First pitch of the double-header is at 1 p.m. If you can make it out to the game (and today's high is 50, so I'd recommend it), you can follow along with GameTracker and Bill Baker's play-by-play through Huskie All-Access.

FROM THE LAND OF THE RISING SUN

It's really difficult to tell where men's soccer player Aaron Zendejas is from. If I had to guess, I'd say "AntonioBanderas-ville," because they look like long lost brothers. Turns out he grew up in Japan. For more on that, and lots of other fun facts about A.Z., check out this Q&A with the junior defender.

If you can't tell the difference, why should I?

Also with men's soccer, the Huskies head to Macomb, Ill., Saturday, for the annual Governor's Cup. As spring games go, the Governor's Cup is a pretty big deal. It's for bragging rights between Northern, Eastern, Western, and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. The Huskies won the Cup in 2007, but fell on penalty kicks to WIU in the first game of last year's contest.

NEWS OF THE DAY

John Sahly at the Daily Chronicle has put together what he calls his best video ever. He also wrote an article on QB DeMarcus Grady finding his role on the Huskie football team this spring.

MORE HUSKIES AT NCAAs

Holly Reichard is focused on achieving at NCAA Regionals and getting to the NCAA Championships.

It seems like just yesterday that Huskie wrestlers competed at NCAAs, and now its already time for the NIU gymnasts to do the same. Andrea Bradley of the Northern Star wrote this preview on the upcoming NCAA Regionals that Jennifer Naughton and Holly Reichard will be competing in. There is free video of this weekend's competition courtesy of ArkansasRazorbacks.com. The link won't show up on that page until about two hours before the competition begins, so don't get fussy if it's not there right now.

GOLFERS IN WEST VIRGINIA

The NIU Men's golf team hits the course in Huntington, W. Va. today for the Marshall Invitational. You can check out the Norther Star's preview, or the advance at NIUHuskies.com.
