Scholar Athletes of the Week: September 9 to September 15

DeKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees are women's soccer's Courtney Ksiazek (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and football's Jason Meehan (St. Louis, Mo./Webster Groves).

Week's Achievements: NIU defensive end Jason Meehan made four tackles, including three solo stops, and sacked the Idaho quarterback for a loss of nine yards in NIU's 45-35 win over the Vandals in Moscow. It was the first career solo sack for the junior from St. Louis. Meehan's performance contributed to a dominating performance by the defensive line, which collected seven of the Huskies' nine sacks on the day. NIU held Iowa to just seven second-half points and forced three turnovers in the comeback win. Week's Achievements: NIU's women's soccer player Courtney Ksiazek was involved in all facets of the games played over weekend. In two games, against the WIU Leathernecks and Green Bay Phoenix, Ksiazek attempted three shots, two of them forcing the opposing goaltender to make a stop. On defense, she contributed play to a unit that held opponents to two goals over the two matches. With one game going to double-overtime, Ksiazek ended up playing over 180 minutes of soccer for the Huskies.
