SUGAR GROVE, Ill. -- Tuesday's match play semifinals at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships have been suspended due to darkness at Rich Harvest Farms. Semifinal matches will resume on Wednesday morning, with the championship match following on Wednesday afternoon. The suspension was the result of a two-hour weather delay during the semifinals.
At the time of the suspension of play, Stanford led its semifinal against Arizona State, 2-1, with two matches still to finish. Casey Danielson earned a 3 & 2 win and Shannon Aubert was victorious 4 & 3 for the Cardinal while Olivia Mehaffey was a 2 & 1 winner for the Trojans. No matches had finished in the second semifinal between Northwestern and Southern California.
In the morning quarterfinals, Stanford and Arizona State advanced in the first wave of matches while Northwestern and Southern California moved on from the second pairings.
Arizona State was a 5-0 winner over Florida, which included a pair of 5 & 4 wins for the Sun Devils. In the first match out, Mehaffey was a 5 & 4 winner over Samantha Wagner while, in the fourth match of the pairing, Roberta Liti was victorious by the same score over Maria Torres. Monica Vaughn, who was crowned the individual national champion on Monday, defeated Karolina Vlckova 2 & 1 to clinch the quarterfinal for Arizona State.
Stanford claimed a 3-2 win over Baylor. Andrea Lee put the first point on the board for Stanford with a 4 & 3 win over Maria Vesga in the third match out. Danielson was a 3 & 2 winner over Fiona Liddell and Albane Valenzuela clinched the match for the Cardinal with a par on No. 17 to top Baylor's Dylan Kim.
In the second wave of morning matches, Sarah Cho gave Northwestern its first point of their quarterfinal against Kent State, downing Kelly Nielsen, 6 & 5. Hannah Kim then brought the Wildcats within a point of clinching the win as she earned a 3 & 1 victory in the third match out. Kacie Komoto finished the quarterfinal for Northwestern with a 2-up victory over Michaela Finn to help the Wildcats earn a 3-2 victory.
Southern California was victorious over Ohio State in the last quarterfinal to finish on Tuesday morning. Victoria Morgan won the first match of the day for the Trojans over Nikolette Schroeder, 4 & 3. The Buckeyes put a point on the board as Jessica Porvasnik topped Muni He, 5 & 4, but Southern California used a pair of 1-up wins from Robynn Ree and Tiffany Chan to advance to the semifinals with a 3-1-1 victory.
On Wednesday, Golf Channel will begin its coverage at 9 a.m. CT with the resumption of the semifinal matches. Golf Channel will continue its live coverage with the championship match beginning at 3 p.m. CT.
