"BE THE MATCH" --- HUSKIES MAKE A DIFFERENCE
By Zach Peters | Posted at 4:18 pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2010
We received some special and fascinating news today at our Town Hall meeting. On April 30, 2009 at Stevenson Tower and Barsema Hall, the Northern Illinois football team tried to "Be the Match" by joining the Marrow Registry. In addition to signing up themselves, the Huskies helped encourage others to go through the simple 10-minute process of filling out a form and getting their cheeks swabbed with a q-tip in order to help thousands of patients who are waiting for donor matches for bone marrow transplants.
We found out today that a young man who registered at the event matched up with a woman who has Hodgkin's lymphoma, and he will be donating bone marrow cells next week in Rockford, Ill. to help save her life!
Stay tuned to the news for updates on this wonderful story.
