SUPER SATURDAY FOR PAIR OF FORMER HUSKIES

Tomorrow is a big day for a pair of former Huskie football players. Former defensive end Jake Coffman will be honored as the 2009 Male Athlete of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Columbus at its annual awards banquet on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 in Columbus, Ohio.
Meanwhile, down in El Paso, Texas, former Huskie center Eddie Adamski will be playing in one final game as he takes the field for Team Nation in the Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Challenge at the Sun Bowl tomorrow afternoon. The game will be televised nationally by CBS College Sports beginning at 1 p.m. CST.
HASF KICK-OFF SATURDAY

Want to be directly involved in supporting Huskie athletic programs, but don't know where to start? The Huskie Athletic Support Fund will be holding its annual third annual HASF Kick-Off tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Victor E. Court at the Convocation Center. The event, which is open to the public, will feature NIU Vice President/Director of Athletics Jeff Compher as well as several NIU coaches and student-athletes discussing how HASF members directly impact the Northern Illinois University athletic department. Whether you're a longtime HASF member or someone wanting to get involved in NIU Athletics, it's a great event!
HUSKIES IN ACTION THIS WEEKEND

Six NIU sports programs will be in action this weekend, starting with women's tennis today. The Huskies will face Marquette in Milwaukee, Wis. at 4:00 p.m. (CT) this afternoon. The wrestling squad is also competing today, as NIU will take on Eastern Michigan in MAC competition in Ypsilanti, Mich. at 6:00 p.m (Preview).
Saturday is full of action with five Huskie teams scheduled to compete. The wrestling team will be in Dubuque, Iowa for the Duhawk Open all day. When the clock strikes 1:00 p.m., women's basketball will tip-off against Akron on the road in Ohio (Audio), men's tennis will face Drake in Des Moines, Iowa, and women's tennis will match-up with Green Bay in Wisconsin. Then the only home event of the weekend will take place at 3:00 p.m. at the Convocation Center, where the men's basketball team will battle Miami (Ohio) in MAC play (Preview | Watch | Gametracker).
Sunday's lineup will start with the wrestling team again, as the Huskies go up against MAC foe Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant, Mich. at 1:00 p.m. Men's tennis will compete against Iowa at 1:30 p.m. in Iowa City, Iowa. The gymnastics squad will then cap the weekend when they take on Texas Woman's University at 2:00 p.m. in Denton, Texas.

Wouldn't it be great to play against the athletes that you grew up watching and admiring? For former Huskie men's soccer midfielder Luis De La Cerda, his dream has come true. De La Cerda returned home to Guadalajara, Mexico to join CF Reboceros de la Pieda, a team playing out of La Piedad, Mexico, where he will play alongside one of his childhood idols, Juan Pabla "Pato" Alfaro. IT'S MILLER TIME!

The May 12th NIU baseball game against Milwaukee was scheduled to be played at the Panthers' Henry Aaron Field, but it was announced on Tuesday that the game will now be played at the Milwaukee Brewers' home Miller Park. The game will follow the noon Brewers-Atlanta Braves game that day, and is scheduled to start at 4 p.m., or 30 minutes after the Brewers game.
HUSKIES FALL TO AKRON, 90-76

The men's basketball team had four players reach double figures for the second time in 2010, but it was not enough to hold off Akron on the road at James A. Rhodes Arena. The 90-76 decision improved the Zips to 16-7, 6-3 in MAC play, while the Huskies dropped to 8-13, 4-5 in MAC competition, as junior guard Xavier Silas led NIU with 15 points. MEN'S TEAM FALLS, PICKS UP BRACKETBUSTER

The NIU men's hoops squad took a tough loss last night at Kent State, 76-46, as junior guard Darion "Jake" Anderson led the way with 12 points for the Huskies. Click here for the full recap. After the game, the Huskies found out that they would be facing Eastern Illinois in their 2010 ESPNU Bracketbuster game. The Huskies and Panthers will play on Saturday, February 20 at 6 p.m. (CST) in Charleston, Ill.

The home opener is scheduled for Sept. 11 when the Huskies welcome the Fighting Sioux of North Dakota to Huskie Stadium. MAC East foes Buffalo and Temple will be coming to DeKalb in 2010 as well as MAC West rivals Central Michigan and Toledo. The Huskies kick off 2010 on Sept. 2 when NIU travles to Ames, Iowa to face the Cyclones of Iowa State. Trips to Illinois (Sept. 18) and Minnesota (Sept. 25) round out NIU's non-conference slate for 2010.
ANOTHER NIU-SUPER BOWL CONNECTION

In a case of "Six Degrees of Seperation," there is yet another Huskie connection down in Miami at Super Bowl XLIV. One of NIU head football coach Jerry Kill's former players when he was at Saginaw Valley State, Paul Spicer is a defensive end for the NFC Champion New Orleans Saints. Spicer played for Kill from 1996-97 after playing his first two years at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn. He may be going up against former Huskie and current right tackle Ryan Diem.
GYMNASTS STAY PERFECT AT HOME

The NIU gymnastics squad (3-1, 2-1 MAC) improved to 3-0 at home this season after a 192.125 to 191.500 conference win over Ball State (3-4, 0-2 MAC) Sunday afternoon. Junior Holly Reichard led the way by staking claim to three event titles. For a full recap, click here.
13 FIRST-PLACE FINISHES = HUSKIE VICTORY

The NIU women's track and field team went crazy over the weekend with 13 first-place finishes at the Carthage College Tadd Metzger Invitational to easily claim the event title. The Huskies' 244 points topped Carthage College (148) and Saint Xavier (56). For a full recap, click here.
