WALTERS FEATURED IN CHRONICLE

Kaylee Walters had this story written about her trip to Senegal in the Daily Chronicle. The feature discusses the background of her trip a little more in-depth, and has some comments from Kaylee's coach, Connie Teaberry. Don't forget, you can check out Kaylee's blog here.

SAVE THE DATE!  HALL OF FAME CHANGE!

To give the event its own flavor and identity, the NIU Athletics Department will hold its Hall of Fame event on Friday, October 30, 2009, one day before the Huskie football team's home game against Mid-American Conference-East Division foe Akron (Oct. 31).  In the past, the event has been held in conjunction with Homecoming Weekend, which is scheduled for October 3, 2009.  Stay tuned in the coming weeks for the 2009 Hall of Fame Inductee Class!

In the meantime, plan which games you will attend (hint: all), and don't delay on securing your season tickets!

BASEBALL SEASON NOT OVER FOR CHUCK

Coming off his first season with the Huskies in which he led the team in strikeouts (61) and posted an NIU single season eighth-best win total of seven, junior southpaw Chuck Lukanen (Lombard, Ill./North Iowa Area C.C.) is continuing to work on his game by playing in the Northwoods League with the Green Bay Bullfrogs this summer.

Through four starts with the Bullfrogs Lukanen is 3-1 with a 1.57 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 23 innings while he has given up 14 walks and only 13 hits to hold opponents to a .165 batting average.  In his only loss thus far, he was solid as he only gave up one run in seven innings, allowing four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.  In his most recent outing last Saturday, he earned his third win by throwing five innings allowing an unearned run on two hits and fanning five.

Lukanen's season in Green Bay can be followed by visiting the Bullfrogs' website: www.greenbaybullfrogs.com.  Updates on some of the other Huskies that are playing summer ball will be posted soon.
