HUSKIE BOMBERS ROLL PAST CHICAGO STATE, 16-2
The Northern Illinois baseball team used a season-high 20 hits, six doubles, and nine walks to put up 16 runs and defeat Chicago State 16-2 on Wednesday evening at Ralph McKinzie Field to earn its fifth win in a row against the Cougars, improving to 7-1 at home in 2009.
THE TRACK IS LINED!!!
The Northern Illinois Soccer and Track & Field Complex is open for business! After the track was painted with lines and markings late this morning, the Huskies are set to host their first home meet since 1981. On May 9, head coach Connie Teaberry will lead her women's track & field team in the Northern Illinois Open. For nearly 20 years, NIU did not sponsor a women's track & field program. Be sure to check out the Huskies on May 9 for this celebratory event!
Troy White AT WRIGLEY
Northern Illinois baseball freshman Troy White participated in Jackie Robinson Day Wednesday at Wrigley Field as Major League Baseball celebrated the 62nd anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the baseball color barrier. White was honored in a special pregame ceremony as he is on scholarship through the Jackie Robinson Foundation that was founded 36 years ago in honor of Robinson's legacy. Read about White's experience in an NIUHuskies.com feature here. The Chicago Cubs also did a nice write-up on the event on CUBS.com.
