Northern Illinois could not hold on to a 6-5 lead in the seventh inning that was established by Jordin Hood's second home run of the game, as Milwaukee rallied for two runs in the eighth to claim a 7-6 win on Tuesday night at Road Ranger Stadium, home of the Frontier League's Rockford RiverHawks. It was NIU baseball's first-ever game in the Rockford, Ill., area and the three-year-old stadium's first Division I contest.

DETAILS ON THE SIMON SIGNING
As originally reported right here on Huskie Happenings, former Northern Illinois receiver Matt Simon, who took part in the New Orleans' Saints rookie mini-camp this past weekend in New Orleans on a tryout basis, has signed a free agent contract with the team, the Saints' announced Monday. Simon joins fellow 2008 seniors Larry English, the defensive end who became the highest draft choice in NIU history when the San Diego Chargers selected him with the 16th overall pick in the first round, and wide receiver Britt Davis, a free agent pick-up by the New York Jets, as rookies on 2009 NFL rosters. SPRING FOOTBALL REVIEW: THE DEFENSIVE BACKS
The DeKalb Daily Chronicle's John Sahly wrapped up his "Spring Review" with a look at NIU's defensive backs.
