CONVO'S COLOSSAL CLEAN SWEEP THIS WEEKEND
Love garage sales? Hit up DeKalb/Sycamore's biggest garage sale this weekend: The Convo Colossal Clean Sweep. For just a buck, you can get in and shop at more than 70 vendors. Parking for the event is free at what Dana Herra of the Daily Chronicle calls an "indoor flea market." I'm not sure how many fleas will be for sale, Dana, but I am looking forward to finding a new vacuum cleaner, so I'll be there.
SOFTBALL LOOKS TO LOCK UP TOURNEY BID AT KENT STATE
The Northern Illinois softball team embarks on its final road trip of the season when the Huskies travel to Kent State and Buffalo this weekend, looking to solidify a spot in the 2009 Mid-American Conference Softball Tournament.
Heading into this weekend's games, the NIU softball team sits in third place in the MAC West. Only the top two teams from each division plus the next four teams with the best conference winning percentage regardless of division make the 2009 MAC Tournament, which is taking place May 7-10 in Akron, Ohio. Follow Friday's doubleheader LIVE HERE with Kent State's live stats.
BASEBALL GETS CHIPPY
With only two Mid-American Conference series remaining after this weekend, the Northern Illinois baseball team will look to improve upon its fifth-place position in the Mid-American Conference-West Division, as the Huskies take on MAC West third-place holder Central Michigan in a three-game set this weekend with games on Friday at 2 p.m. CT, Saturday at 1 p.m., and Sunday at noon.
The Huskie offense that had scored at least seven runs in 10 of its last 11 games before its recent three-game slump of scoring just eight combined runs, will look to get back on track against a Chippewa pitching staff that has a 5.81 ERA, which is fourth in the MAC. CMU starters Taylor (2nd) and Teno (8th) both rank in the top ten in the league in ERA, while also ranking in the top three in strikeouts with 54 (3rd) and 58 (1st), respectively.

SPEAKING OF GOLF
Rich Harvest Farms cracked the top 50 in Golf Digest's recent list of America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses. The home of Huskie golf, Rich Harvest Links moved up five spots from last year and was rated No. 46 in this year's list. Rich Harvest Farms, an 18-hole par 72 course located in Sugar Grove, Ill., is the longest course on the list at 7,758 yards.
Rich Harvest is not only the home course for NIU, but will serve as the site of the 2009 Solheim Cup August 17-23, 2009. The Solheim Cup features matches between the top European-born players from the Ladies European Tour (LET) and the top U.S.-born players from the Ladies Professional Golf Association competing in a format similar to the Ryder Cup.
