Huskie Happenings

NIUHuskies.com, the official online home for Northern Illinois Athletics, is pleased to announce the launch of a new blog, "Huskie Happenings." The section includes links to a daily newsstand, online chats, feature stories and interviews, game-day and multimedia information, promotions, calendars and much more. We hope this will become your first and last stop everyday for all the information you crave about Huskie Athletics.

A BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR BASEBALL

Chuck Lukanen will start on the mound for the Huskies as they host first-place Toledo today at 3 p.m.

Leading off today's Huskie Happenings: baseball! Northern Illinois hosts Toledo in game one of a three-game series today at 3 p.m. out at Ralph McKinzie Field. The Rockets lead the MAC West with a 7-5 record, but a clean sweep from NIU this weekend would vault the Huskies into the upper-echelon of the conference. Check out the series preview from NIUHuskies.com and the Northern Star. On the fence about whether or not to go? How about this:

If sunshine and 70 doesn't do it for ya, I don't know what will... or maybe I do. Saturday's game will have FREE PIZZA for the first 75 fans, so be sure to make it out for a 1 p.m. start. You can follow along with live audio from today's and Saturday's games, and check out the GameTracker for all three contests (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).

GRIDIRON ROUNDUP

Steve Nitz discusses the 2009 offensive line in today's Northern Star.

For your football fix of the day, check out the Daily Chronicle's story on players changing positions this spring. You can also read up of the Northern Star's take on the offensive line.

FLECKS STARING DOWN 26.2

Former NIU wide receiver and current wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator (as if he needs an introduction) PJ Fleck and his wife Tracie will be running the Go! St. Louis Marathon, Sunday. You can read more about the marathon at its official web-site, and check out the course map. Then check back Monday for a full report.

SOFTBALL COVERAGE

The Huskie softball team hits the road to face Ball State and Miami (Ohio) this weekend. Check out the this preview from Andrea Bradley of the Northern Star, and the advance from NIUHuskies.com. You can follow the Miami (Ohio) games this weekend with GameTracker (Saturday, Sunday).
