CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND AHEAD
While the focus in DeKalb this weekend may be on the Spring Football Preview and its surrounding activities, three other NIU teams will be out of town, vying for conference championships and possible automatic berths into NCAA postseason play. The men's tennis team, fresh off an upset over Ball State for the first time in 35 years, will travel to Buffalo, N.Y., for the MAC Championships, as the No. 3 seed. The women's tennis team heads to Bowling Green, Ohio, as the eighth-seed in the nine-team field; and the women's golf team will be in Nashport, Ohio, for its conference championship. IHS TO AIR DATES
Catch the final Inside Huskie Sports episode of the 2008-09 season. Coach Patton won't be on, but coaches Kill, Chouinard, and Mathey will.
The final episode of "Inside Huskie Sports" was recorded Monday night at Fatty's, and its telecast clearances were announced today. The show will air on MyNetwork TV in Rockford April 25, and will be shown for the first time on Comcast SportsNet at noon the same day. CSN will re-air the show on April 30 at 2 p.m. Set your DVR; it's the last chance to get a glimpse of NIU Athletics on IHS until next fall!
DVR THIS, TOO
As former NIU defensive end Larry English charges up for Saturday's upcoming NFL Draft, he will appear on the morning sports talk program "First Take" on ESPN2 and ESPN2HD Thursday morning. While the time slot for his interview is not yet determined, English did relay to us that he is scheduled to be in Chicago readying for the interview at 9:30 a.m. CST. We'll keep you posted if we hear more; if not, go ahead and set that DVR again!
NIU ATHLETICS, SECRETARY OF STATE ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP
The Northern Illinois Athletics Department, in conjunction with Secretary of State Jesse White's office, have announced a partnership to increase awareness and registration for the organ and tissue donor program. The Nov. 5 football game between the Huskies and Eastern Michigan will be designated as a "Life Goes On" contest with pre-game press, registration tables and public announcements. A home NIU basketball game will also carry the Life Goes On message. Stay tuned to NIUHuskies.com for a full release, and recap of today's press conference announcing the partnership.
SOFTBALL IN EVANSTON TO TAKE ON NORTHWESTERN TODAY!
The NIU softball team will take a break from Mid-American Conference action this afternoon, when the Huskies travel to Evanston, Ill., to take on No. 10 Northwestern beginning at 4 p.m. You can follow the contest on Gametracker, and the game will also be broadcast live on WNUR (89.3 FM) and at the station's web-site.
