Scholar Athletes of the Week (September 30 to October 6)

DeKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees football's Rob Sterling and volleyball's Emily Paschke.

Week's Achievements: Sterling was part of a blocking crew that opened up hole after hole for NIU rushers in the 38-24 win over Kent State on Saturday. The team ran for 454 yards on 63 rushing attempts, good for 7.2 yards per carry. On the pass blocking side, Sterling also aided in leaving Jordan Lynch relatively untouched when each time Lynch dropped back for a pass. The Huskies did not allow a sack as a team. Sterling chipped in a reception that went for four yards as well. Week's Achievements: Paschke produced 13 combined solo blocks and block assists in two wins over the weekend for NIU. On Friday, in the 3-1 win over Eastern Michigan, Paschke had two block assists, a solo block, and three kills to help the Huskies secure the victory. On Saturday, she came away with eight block assists, two solo blocks, and she made nine kills to help NIU beat Central Michigan, 3-1.
