| Week's Achievements: Maksym Bartiuk finished the weekend a flawless 4-0 with two wins a apiece in singles and doubles play against Ball State and Marquette. Bartiuk won at No. 3 doubles with partner Roman Turtygin against the Cardinals with a dominant 8-2 score and rallied in three sets at No. 5, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5, to help the Huskies defeat BSU, 6-1, and improve to 2-0 in the MAC after beating Western Michigan, 5-2, on March 23. Against Marquette, he rallied again in singles with a three set victory at No. 4, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, and claimed a clutch victory at No. 2 doubles, 8-7. With the win over Ball State on Saturday, it marked the first time since 1974 that the NIU men's tennis team defeated the Broncos and the Cardinals in the same season. |
Week's Achievements: Senior Dani Parrish led the way for the Huskie offense with five hits as NIU posted a 3-1 mark this past weekend in Mid-American Conference softball. After splitting a doubleheader with Eastern Michigan, winning Game Two, the Huskies swept a weekend series with Central Michigan with Parrish delivering the game-winning two-run homer in Sunday's, 4-2 victory. Parrish batted .500 on the week, well above her season average of .312, going 5-for-10 with two RBIs and a run scored. The Plainfield, Ind. native played in all four games, starting three, and led the team in slugging percentage (.800) and on-base percentage (.545). In NIU's win over the Chippewas Sunday, Parrish was a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored. |
